New UNODC Publication: Threat Assessment of Opium

In 2010 an estimated 25 per cent of the 380 tons of heroin manufactured in Afghanistan, some 90 tons was trafficked northwards through Central Asia via the Northern route and onward to the Russian Federation.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has released a new publication entitled - Opiate Flows Through Afghanistan and Central Asia: A Threat Assessment.
This report describes the illicit trade of opiates along the Northern route from northern Afghanistan to Central Asia up to the borders of the Russian Federation. The report is available for download in English.
