Second Anniversary of Haiti Earthquake

On 12 January 2010, Haiti was struck by a devastating earthquake with its capital, Port-au-Prince, as the epicenter. At least 225,000 people were killed, more than 300,000 injured and 2.3 million - almost one quarter of the population - displaced. Included in the list of casualties were 102 United Nations staff who died in the collapse of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
Today we honour the memory of those who perished in this disaster. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in his message on the second anniversary of the Haiti earthquake, urged continued international support for Haiti’s recovery and rebuilding.
