Security Council meetings on the Middle East today

Wednesday, May 8th 2013
The Security Council is meeting this morning in its 6962nd meeting, for a meeting on the situation in Libya.
This afternoon, there is a closed consultation on the seventeenth semi-annual report of the Secretary-General to the Security Council on the implementation of Security Council resolution 1559 (2004), (S/2013/234) related to Lebanon.

Security Council Meeting on Situation in Libya

The Security Council met at 6934th meeting to discuss the Situation in Libya and the Report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, S/2013/104.
The Council proceeded to vote on the draft resolution ,S/2013/156. The draft resolution received 15 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions and was adopted unanimously as resolution 2095 (2013).

Security Council Meeting on Situation in Libya

The Security Council met this morning, 22 December, on the situation in Libya. The report of the Secretary-General on United Nations Support Mission in Libya (S/2011/727) was discussed. There was a briefing by the Chair of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1970 (2011) concerning Libya as well.

The Situation in Libya

On Thursday October 28th at its 6640th meeting, the Security Council adopted resolution S/RES/2016(2011) to end the NATO mission in Libya and the protection of civilians.
The Security Council will hold another meeting today at 3pm on the Situation in Libya.

The Situation in Libya

The Security Council will again meet this morning, 26 September 2011, to discuss the Situation in Libya.
During its 6620th meeting, S/PV.6620, the Council adopted a new resolution S/RES/2009(2011) establishing the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). The new mission is to assist Libya’s national efforts to restore public security, promote the rule of law, foster inclusive political dialogue and national reconciliation, and embark on constitution-making and electoral processes. Mr Ian Martin(United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) has been appointed Special Representative and Head of UNSMIL and Mr Georg Charperntier(Finland) as the Deputy Special Representative and the Resident Coordinator, S/2011/588, S/2011/587, respectively.

The Security Council has adopted a new resolution (S/RES/2009 (2011)—to be published) establishing the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). The new mission is to assist Libya’s national efforts to restore public security, promote the rule of law, foster inclusive political dialogue and national reconciliation, and embark on constitution-making and electoral processes.
