International Human Solidarity Day

On 22 December 2005, by resolution 60/209, the General Assembly proclaimed 20 December of each year as International Human Solidarity Day. The General Assembly identified solidarity as one of the fundamental and universal values that should underlie relations between peoples in the Twenty-first century. Today, we are reminded about the importance of solidarity for the achievement of the international agreements on social development.

International Migrants Day

On 4 December 2000, by resolution 55/93, the General Assembly proclaimed 18 December as International Migrants Day. On this day, UN Member States and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations observe International Migrants Day through the dissemination of information on the human rights and fundamental freedoms of migrants, and through the sharing of experiences and the design of actions to ensure their protection.

International Anti-Corruption Day

The General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption (A/RES/58/4) on 31 October 2003, which, along with the designation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as the secretariat for the Convention’s Conference of States Parties, designated 9 December as International Anti-Corruption Day.

INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY
By resolution 40/212 (A/RES/40/212), the General Assembly invited Governments to observe annually on 5 December, International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

By General Assembly resolution 47/3 (A/RES/47/3) of 14 October 1992 (renamed A/RES/62/127), the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed annually on 3 December. This day promotes an understanding of disability issues and helps to mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. This year’s theme, “Together for a better world for all: Including persons with disabilities in development”, works to ensure the inclusion of the 1 billion persons with disabilities in the international development agenda.
