UN General Assembly: First High Level Meeting for Persons with Disabilities

In accordance with resolution 66/124 (A/RES/66/124), the High-level Meeting on the Realization of the Millennium Development Goals and Other Internationally Agreed Development Goals for Persons with Disabilities will be held on Monday, 23 September,2013.
In accordance with resolution 65/1 (A/RES/65/1), the special event in 2013 to follow up efforts made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals will be held on Wednesday, 25 September. In accordance with resolution 67/39 (A/RES/67/39), the High-level Meeting on Nuclear Disarmament will be held on Thursday, 26 September. In accordance with resolution 67/219 (A/RES/67/219), the High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development will be held on Thursday, 3, and Friday, 4 October.

Security Council - Sudan and South Sudan
The Security Council met on Wednesday, 29 May 2013 at its 6970th meeting to discuss Report of the Secretary-General on the situation in Abyei (S/2013/294).
The President drew attention to the text of a draft resolution contained in document S/2013/318, submitted by the Republic of Korea, Rwanda, Togo, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America.
The draft resolution received 15 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions and was adopted unanimously as resolution S/RES/2104 (2013).

A Global Guide on Disaster Prevention: A Collaboration by UN Libraries

UN Libraries have been working together to create a guide to information resources that we hope may be of interest to participants in the Fourth Session of the Global Platform and others involved in disaster prevention.
This is the first global research guide developed collaboratively by librarians across duty stations,the UN Library in Geneva, Mexico, New York and Santiago, and we are happy to be able to launch the guide in time for the start of the conference and beyond.

Proclaimed by General Assembly Resolution, A/RES/44/237, this day is intended to mobilize the commitment of the international community to the industrialization of Africa.It is a time when governments and other organizations in many African countries examine ways to stimulate Africa’s industrialization process. It is also an occasion to draw worldwide media attention to the problems and challenges of industrialization in Africa.
This years theme is: Accelerating industrialization for boosting intra-African trade.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

One-day social media action to raise awareness of MDG successes and push for achievement of the Goals by 2015
The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has been observed every year since 1993, when the General Assembly, by resolution 47/196, designated this day to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries, particularly in developing countries - a need that has become a development priority.
At the Millennium Summit, world leaders committed themselves to cutting by half by the year 2015 the number of people living in extreme poverty - people whose income is less than one dollar a day.
This years theme is ”Ending the Violence of Extreme Poverty: Promoting Empowerment and Building Peace”.

Security Council meeting on Haiti

Friday, 12 October 2012
The Security council met today at 6845th meeting to discuss Report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti ,S/2012/678.
The President drew attention to the text of a draft resolution contained in document S/2012/743 , submitted by Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, the United States of America and Uruguay.
The Council proceeded to vote on the draft resolution (S/2012/743) before it.
Decision: The draft resolution (S/2012 743 / ) received 15 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions, and was adopted unanimously as resolution 2070 (2012).
